Oct 24- From Death Valley to Mammoth Lake
Happy 81st birthday to my hubby, Paul! Here's where we started our day in Death Valley
The Ranch at Death Valley. It was here that the highest temperature ever recorded took place - 134º on July 10, 1913.
That's our car on the left. We were checking out.
It truly is an oasis.
Desert flower.
Death Valley has some really interesting scenery. There’s plenty of not so spectacular places but overall I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it.
We stopped at Mesquite Dunes.
Man, that sun was bright!! I couldn't see the screen, thus, the shadow.
Took a chance
Last look at the dunes.
There were mountains on either side, Duh - valley!
The road stretched on and on.
Here's what it looked like crossing that white patch in the previous picture.
Couldn't figure if it was sand or something else.
Surprisingly there was no cacti in the valley. Only once you were out of it.
Not much vegetation.
From a little different angle, this looked like a hot air balloon.
More white stuff.
Piled up here.
It was a 3+ hour drive to Mammoth Lakes. When we got here, we found our hotel under construction. But the room was nice and big. After a well needed nap, we decided to have dinner at The Warming Hut.
I had a grilled cheese and tomato soup. Paul had a beef sandwich and vegetable soup. The margarita I ordered was small but heavy on the tequila! As soon as I got to motel, I got ready and went to bed. It was around 8:00.
