The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere: Oct. 22

We walked a total of 6.5 miles today and are my legs and back feeling it!

The gates to the Sphere opened at 3:15. What they neglected to tell us is that they don't open the doors until 4:15 and you have to be in your seats by 5. The access they pointed us to had sooooo many steps, and I told them I couldn't climb that many. So they pointed us to the ADA line and we were very close to the front! But Paul had to leave to find a restroom (none in the area) and I stood there for about 30 minutes while he made the mile trip and back to the Venetian. If you look at the first photo, you will see zombies scaling the Sphere! The second photo is of the huge display to the Wicked Witch of the East's shoes.

While there I enjoyed watching the people, some of whom had dressed up as characters.

Finally made it into the atrium of the Sphere and were greeted with all sorts of bars, snack and alcohol, a few displays, and shops.

This was a globe with a portion of the movie showing on it.  Paul happened to catch Miss Gulch riding towards the Gales' house to get Toto.

Finally got to our seats. We were in Section 405 (upper balcony), row 14 (what a climb! Steep and high steps! It reminded me of the Clemson stadium) Seats 5 and 6 (Seats 1-4 helped me get to the seat as the aisle was quite narrow! My recommendation - 300s or 200s for sections.

From our seats.

The following photos are stills I took of the movie itself. One thing I really enjoyed is how they fleshed out the land of Oz!

When they reached  Munchkinland.

Scolding the Lion.

Poppies falling.

Seeing Emerald City.

About to walk through the poppy field

Dorothy's view as she falls asleep.

All spic and span to see the Wizard.

The other pictures I took are videos. I'll put them together as a movie and post it here.

Notes on the videos. Every time the WW shows up, the seats shake and a scary noise is played. The tornado had wind (not bad) blowing on you and a bunch of leaves (we caught about a dozen). When it's snowing, light snow (synthetic) falls on you. When the monkeys fly, balloon monkeys (just a few) fly near the screen. They are slower than the other monkeys so hopefully you can see them. Of course, you get shaking when the Wizard appears also.

After the show, if you go back to the atrium, they have a short aftershow where the Wizard appears and talks to a couple of people in the audience.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

The leaves we captured during the tornado.

Dinner at Noodle Asia in the Venetian. I had wonton soup, potstickers, and a few pieces of Paul's orange chicken and Jasmine Rice. My boba milk tea came with a takeaway glass!

Well, we will leisurely spend our morning at the hotel and then take off for Death Valley tomorrow.
