Lewes, DE to Cape May, NJ

Saturday, Sept. 25

We woke up to 55ยบ weather but by the time we left, it had warmed up to 70.  We headed to the farmer's market in Lewes at George WP Smith Park. It was small but lots of good veggies and a few other items. We bought 2 cookies and I got 2 lavender items. We walked around the pond there and saw an interesting art installation made of plastic bottles and colored plastic netting.

The market was small but lots of good stuff.

The lavender booth.

Here's what they were selling.

Lots of pumpkins!

More produce

The art installation from afar.

Here I am "contemplating"

We then drove to the ferry terminal. We got there very early so we ate lunch outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We hopped in our car at 2:15 and we were shortly on board.

"Bad Monkey"

Uh, nachos for one? Paul had cheesesteak sandwich.

Here we go!

Cape May is 17 miles away across the bay. The ferry took 85 minutes to cross. I was outside the whole time. I saw 3 dolphin. I met an interesting woman who used to work for various musicians. Her real claim to fame was she held Bruce Springsteen's leather jacket while he gave autographs!

The lighthouse on the jetty.

The name of the ferry

The ferry is considered part of the Coast Guard.

Passenger up front opened his car door and
stuck his legs out his window for a quick nap!

We have arrived!

Cape May was beautiful and so was the weather. We parked alongside the boardwalk and walked around 1/2 mile up and back, admiring the beautiful mansions across the way.

We walked out to see the beach but didn't go on it (not dressed for the beach)

Got a glimpse of the mansions.

The biggest one we saw.

One was being refurbished.

See the ship figurehead by the door?

Some kids exiting the beach.

The boardwalk.

Ruby with the beautiful homes.

Since all the hotels were booked (!!!) we decided we would try to find one at Wildwood. Well, that was a bust! Not that there weren't any open, but we didn't like what we saw. We stopped at a McDonald's and then got gas, then decided to head north to see what we could find.

We found bupkis.

So, knowing there were rooms available at Atlantic City and wanting to see the boardwalk there, we drove in, just two innocent Floridians who don't gamble, but enjoy the sights.  EEK! How many exits and limited access highways are there in one city? The casinos were very visible, but hotels that weren't attached to casinos? We found a small area, but there was so much traffic, we couldn't even pull over! Finally I just uploaded one of my travel apps and found a hotel out away from the city and we made several loop de loops before we got on the right road!

So we are lodged for the night and will probably sleep in late, then go down to the boardwalk and face the crowds!

Always an adventure.

AGAIN, I'D APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW SO I KNOW THIS BLOG IS BEING READ. Thanks!
